Watercolor Floral Fun

Pink-o-lucious Rose
Watercolor
on 140 lb paper
mounted on a one in board that is distressed

I have just finished doing a group of watercolor floral paintings.
Here's the truth!
I haven't had a lot of experience at watercolor technique,
(Please don't be too very critical)
as always... I like to experiment on my own and see what I can come up with.

I have been wanting to do something a little different
than my thick, color intense palette knife style paintings.
Although I will always go back to doing that palette knife stuff
because it is such a fun way to paint.
... and people seem to like my oil paintings with the textual palette style.

So here is the start of my new paintings.
I began with 140 lb paper and neatly torn edges.
I planned from the beginning to make these a distressed look, when finished.
watercolored paper is 140 lb

various floral looks inspired by
daisy, lily and rose
some of my "girl-friends"

old fashioned rose mounted on distressed wood board.

tiger lily

I think the two tiger lily ones would look good together so i made them a similar shape and size

wooden boards left over from a different project are cut to different sizes
to fit the size of the paper flowers

I painted them black first
then many coats of white,
 then a light violet blue
"Deco Art" -  Blue Harbor

a light stain of oak to seal the board and show the sanded edges more
I sanded the boards on the edges as you can see here

tiny nail on the corners to hold the paper onto the board
I also put a few dots of hot glue under the edges
The needle-nose plyers help me hold the little nail straight to pound it in each corner

here you see the tiny golden nail
in the corner
I like how it looks

Finished product ready to hang
measures just 5 by 6 inches
perfect size for a pink o licious Rose

Sure was fun doing these watercolors
I plan to post the others when they are finished being mounted on the board and distressed also

A Little Surprise Arrived Today

showing at :

UndertheTableandDreaming

I clicked on this site, on my side bar
an ad on my Face Book page
  a  "live" on-line give-away
for a paint easel and supplies to paint outside
everything included!
My dream is to do that someday this summer.
I need the right equipment so I will save up for it and buy it,  when I have enough.

This is what the easel is like that I tried to win
during the live  give-away
painting not included, I don't think

So I took part in the give-away ...
and it was so fun to try to win the easel.
It was a "live" thing and everyone chatted back and forth.
Some funny artsy people from all over the USA!
and numbers and names where picked and announced.
You had to be present online in the discussion group,
so it took awhile before someone won.
The very sweet man, David, running the promotion,
has an art store and  he sells art supplies on-line too.
He said it is the first time trying this give away idea.
It seemed very popular
about 5-6 hundred likes

lots a great art supplies available

You can find it here, should you need a good source for art supplies

located in Oceanside CA.

David was kind and commented on everyones posts to his site
 and answered every question quickly.

a week ago I decided that I needed some palette knives
so I ordered a set from his store online.
He was offering a discount to the people that took part in the giveaway.
I used pay pal  so I did not get the discount.
I messaged that to David and ...wow! he immediately took care of it
refunding the proper amount for the discount

When my palette knives arrived today..
 I had a great surprise!
palette knives is all that I ordered ...just to try them out
and I got ALL this!
The wooden box was extra surprising!

two small canvas also were included
just because ...

sweet little paint box! COOL!
It doesn't take much to make me giddy with happiness!

David gave me a great set of palette knives
and a whole bunch of assorted paintbrushes
( I love paint brushes) can't have too many.
and he included a sweet wooden box and a wooden palette.
and two canvases
 Yea! Cool!
So unexpected!
He is very generous and kind.

 Please visit David's art store
In Oceanside, CA.
order online too!

and see if you like his style as I do!
I know you will be pleased.
PS ...He did not ask me to post about this
...I just am very pleased with my surprise package today

Blooming a Bit

My oil paintings are helping me to "Bloom" a bit. if that is possible. I like the palette knife I purchased at hobby Lobby. Two oil paintings done! I'm so proud of myself for not being afraid to try something new.

Went to the Dentist for my regular cleaning and polishing. (I'm a star patient as far as brushing technique) We got talking as dentists and hygienists tend to do. yes they always love to see how you will handle talking back at them as you have water sprayed in your mouth and a little sucking tube thing danging on your lip. But I managed to get out that I have been painting and I have a studio over at the Loveland Artist Studios on Main St. LASOM for short. They know all about second Saturday Open Houses and they even know some of the other artists there. Dr Julie was eager to see my art and promised to hang some of it in her waiting room area. She has been needing to get new art for awhile she told me. I am over joyed at this prospect of getting a little bit of hometown exposure! So don't be afraid of the dentist and remember to floss!

My latest oil is based of a photo of Adam , who is an old roommate and forever best friend of my son , Joe in Chicago. This is a grove of big enormously tall trees at the Arboretum just outside of Chicago. Thank you Adam, you rock!

brown eyed wild ones

I finished the oil painting at least for now. Have to get on to other things. I found this stuff at Hobby Lobby that you spray on the oil painting and it dries much much faster. Ahhhhh... good ole chemicals, can do anything these days. Lots to do to get ready for September 's Art Show. Ill die if I don't get into this show!. I haven't made anything real new in a while. The bark mixed media art is looking like the way to go for now till I come up with a different idea for my (let's call it) Whimsical Nature Folk Art. I'm

busy re-working the old birds . I'm adding texture to them all and making them much more detailed and colorful. Another idea is to make clay flowers and add them in with some of the birds as a mixed media art sculpture. I hope that turns out as good as I am picturing it being.

Here are a few photos I took over at the studio of the brown eyed susan painting. Thank you to Mike Haight for the inspiration from his photo (the photo at the end)
