rustic folk art frame

Inspirational Bird photo from last winter in my backyard
Yea...last winter it actually snowed around here !
This winter is very different..not much snow at all
But there is still February to come ...
I sold this wall art recently and it inspired me to do more
This is my own idea to make a rustic
"nature theme" frame
I collect bark from time to time
while walking the trails in the woods around here
lots of interesting bark lying around
I dry it in  my oven

coat the dried bark well with gel medium
and a little craft paint

I decided to use the bark pieces on a recent painting
of a couple of cardinals hanging out in the tree tops

palette knife painting

hope you can tell this is two cardinals

What do you think?
Do you like palette knife paintings?
Do you like Folk art or rustic looking nature art?

Kat--that is a great idea. The rustic, natural look is perfect for your paintings. Yes to your questions. The rough texture of palette knife paintings goes well with rustic nature art. I adore folk art.

i like that you used more subtle tones for the cardinals rather than bright red. makes you stop and look at the art more. :)

....I love it. I like painting with a palette knife too, but I haven't done it for over a year! You're inspiring me to get it out! :-)
