There's no place like home at the Abbey

Now THAT's a Ruby Slipper !

Happy Friday everyone
This is a special post about my latest painting
and also
a bit about my family
I'm the one drinking milk...and a dash of Kahlua

here is my latest art work in progress

I think I'll call it..." Pears "

soon to be added to my growing art shop at
Fine Art America.com
  > HERE
yes that is my unabashed, self promotion of this post
sorry

still a bit more finishing touches to do
after this layer dries a bit
I am using oils of the water soluble type
which I use exclusively  now !
no chemicals needed for cleaning and thinning.
They dry much faster than traditional oils -for sure!
These paints are very similar in
  performance to  traditional oil paint.
 Pinned Image
Next -  I plan to go back
 to some architectural, impressionist painting
perhaps the old  St Bede Monastery
will be next
or my Home Church of St Columban
I have been feeling more like it is my home
the place to find strength,  love, and inspirations
I think we all have those special places

Places that will always be with you and give you
a peaceful yet powerfully joyous state of mind.

I have been doing some traveling
visiting with  my Dad in Peru  IL
at the Benedictine Monastery where he now lives
with his fellow monks

The Monastery and school

Church building

A sculpture of the child Mary by a St Bede monk

the Monastery pond out back is lovely

I went to an auction/ Dinner/ Fundraiser
for St Bede's Abbey and Academy

St Benedict and his Arch Angels

Five of my six sisters arrived on Friday
also two of my three brothers !
Dad was there to greet us all at the doors of
St Bebe Abbey
And now my  "Confession "
We love to steal our dad away from his Abbey home
and treat him to lunches and dinners while we are visiting him
we go to Starved Rock State Park and soak in the scenery
or we go to a local winery and do a wine tasting
I found a wine I absolutely loved
Rhubarb wine !
I have almost drained one whole bottle this week Oh MY!
Dad (Brother Anthony) and some of us
 ate lunch at Duffy's Tavern
He enjoyed his time with us there
and a deliciously overflowing corned beef sandwich.
do you see the  image of a clover in the foam?
At first I thought that clover image was
 some kind of miracle
Oh-My-God
...but they do that to all the Guinness's
neat trick of ole Duffy
My Littlest brother Danny Shaughnessy

Duffy's Tavern for lunch

Now for the photos from the auction
The Theme
is
"There's No Place Like Home"
which is true - isn't it ?

buckets of beer ? There IS no place like home

The art students made the decorations
and many of them entertained us all night long

The tornado as we entered The Auction

A  student at St Bede Academy dressed as the cowardly lion

Brother George, now 90 yrs old has a fun time at the auction

We Will Be Back Again - Soon - Love and hugs - KAT

Those pears are beautiful - it's unusual to see oils (and refreshing!).
We toured the Guiness factory in Dublin, and they did the shamrock trick in the bar at the top of the building.

Thanks for the fun photo journey with your fundraiser and family. I am straight North of your Dad in Lake Zurich, IL. I love your impressionistic pears. how do you like FASO? I tried to do a blog there about 2 years ago and couldn't figure it out. But many fine artists on it. Have a great week, and Happy PPF!
