Illustrating Childrens Books

Another  "Kat's Nature"  Adventure ?
Working at illustrating a children's book or two.
I choose to do them with watercolor paint
and pen and ink lines to define the pictures.

you know how kittens love to crawl into bags?

This has been fun and exciting and
stressful and anxious times for me
because...
I never have done anything like this before!
so please be kind!

I am lucky enough to have a friend who is a wonderful writer.
and a very nice person.
I actually met up with Danny Langone through Facebook.
A friend of an old high school friend.
Danny Langone - author
Danny's wife, Barb was a school mate of my older sister.
We all grew up in "small town" Wisconsin...
...where everybody knows everybody.
So we chatter back and forth,
usually just trying to make the other laugh

We have a similar sense of humor,
although he has perfected his.
I eventually read a few of his published works,
"Keys to the Condo" - humorous poetry
"Flybait's Lament" - fiction novel

"Wilt's Hollow" - in the publishing process now

book jacket by Danny's daughter Kim
I  absolutely loved reading them all.
Danny really has some enormous talent for telling stories, ticking the funny bone, and touching the heart.
(if you would like to read any of Danny's books let me know
I can get you a signed copy for 20 dollars from him.)
One day Danny simply asked if I would like to illustrate
for a couple  of his children's books.
He has been wanting to just go ahead and self publish
 for a long time now.

 After I overcame my,
"I can't do something that important," feeling...
... I told him I would love to illustrate his books.

The first book is titled simply,
 "Creeper"
and the second book is titled
 "Percy"
 Creeper is an adventurous cat.

Percy is a hungry little field mouse.

Both books are lovely, witty, poetic songs.
Danny  happily reads his poems to
school children, in his hometown
and they always enjoy that.
So he had the idea to just go ahead
 and publish some children's books.

we are doing the self- publish "thing" .
After graphic artist,
Kimberly Langone
gets it all organized for us,
we shall have a book or two to peddle.

according to Google images
this is what a book peddler looks like! Yikes

Another adventure for me!
I look forward to that very much, actually.
of course my grand-daughter. Jillian
will get the very first copy!

Jillian ...she calls me "Gam-gam"
Yep she stole my old Gammy heart the moment i laid eyes on her!

hugs to you

Need A Paperback to Read This Spring/ Summer ?

I have read this book, and I have been meaning to tell others about it.
  "Flybait's Lament"
is about a very odd-ball yet strangely
interesting little town.
 One-of-a-kind, and hilariously described characters
living together in Flybait, Texas.
Well, that is just it's nick-name.
Characters are so imaginative and interesting
and they all inter-weave into a fantastically interesting story.

This book has loads of fun characters and situations.
I literally laughed out loud many times!
If you need a bit of mystery and escape in your life,
with twists, turns, puzzles, murder, love,
and laugh out loud fun, you have to read this book .
The author,( Danny) is willing to mail you a copy
... he will sign it for you too.
or you can order it through amazon.com .
Send him an email to request a  signed paperback copy of
"Flybait's Lament"
a review on amazon .com:
here is a quote from the reviewer on amazon:
"Once Langone gets all the guffaws and hi-jinx out of the way, he constructs a plot with intrigue and pathos. The author weaves an engaging story with interesting twists and turns in the second half of the book. The characters deepen and grow beyond their superficial oddities, becoming instantly more compelling and appealing. Readers begin to feel sympathetic for the inhabitants of this down-on-its-luck town, where the one traffic light is purchased out of a sense of false optimism rather than actual need, as the author gifts readers with solid writing and a quick descriptive flair."

Quill says: With scatological silliness and macabre mayhem, the grimly goofy inhabitants of this backwater town deal with mystery and intrigue."

Yea, You get it now...?...An slap-stick Comedic, Murder Mystery
I loved it

  *  This is an adult book , well,...I would rate it PG-13.

Danny also is a wonderful poet. look for "Keys To The Condo"

Some of the children's poetry is slowly but surely
 being transferred into children's books
and Danny has asked me to make illustrations/ pictures
to go along with some of these cute children's tales in poem form.

We hope to have our first children's book
 out before The Christmas Season.
Titled, "Creeper"

see my latest blog post (July 12th)
about the children's books and my illustrations for them.
Hugs to you
