Fall-ing Leaves

"Fall-ing Leaves"  pastels and oil paints that are water soluble work well together

making small paintings on canvas paper then cut them out and mount onto wood

very thinned oil paint of leaf shapes
I used wood glue to attach the canvas to wood blocks

oil pastels to give shades of color  - using my finger-tip to smear the color together

I may hang them in a chained together form like falling leaves

Like this

this one looks nice just setting on the mantle

Autumnal Art

Happy Autumn
Have to update my crow and my owls

made some daisy/sunflowers
with oven bake clay and decided they were too perfect looking
So...I added some modeling paste
mixed with acrylic paint to make them more unique

I wanted a more primitive folk art look
than  molded flower shape

The leaf was formed flat
then I curled up the edges
like real leaves would be

I painted them again
and added white and yellow
and a burnt sienna center to the flowers
and a few shades of green to the leaves

I wanted to do more with the copper wire I have
so I thought a nice little swirl of it
in the center of the flowers would be pleasing to the eye.
do you like it?

Here is the updated crow with the yellow flowers
he is decorating his place too...

a few real crow feathers decorate his tail.

I sanded  the base down on all the edges to
achieve a more primitive feel to the piece

This Sly Crow is stealing
shiny stars from the sky

What a great
balancing act Mr Crow !

Here is my updated owl with dancing pumpkins
or are they trying to roll away in the wind ?

Mr Owl is watching over the baby pumpkins
 because someone
stole their mommy,
to make a Jack-o-lantern

this is some of my primitive bark art

did you notice his neck warmer of feathers
Thank you to

Theresa @ Run Around Ranch
for the feathers from beneath her bird feeders

I used the copper wire to make curl-ies on the pumpkin stems
the stems are actual pumpkin stems...

...a la Frankenstein
Yes,.. Igor, We have achieved pumpkin-perfection !

Hugs to you all

Paint Party Friday Post

this is an acrylic painting I did for a friend

He is an author, nature lover, and art lover

I made it , inspired by a poem my friend wrote long ago

" Two children dangling their feet in a stream
One runs off to follow a floating leaf
A friendship ends "

...there is much more to this poem,

this is the line Danny gave me to work with.
He signed my books " from your biggest fan"
and I am (as you can tell)
his biggest fan.
He has purchased a few of
my nature paintings in the past.

his witty poetry is included in his book :
"Keys to The Condo"
a View of Life
by an Almost Old Man

other books by Danny are witty ,funny, exciting
novels that are real page turners

"Flybaits Lament"
you can check out at Amazon.com or Publish America
or directly from Danny through me ($20.00)

His second Novel is a family story
and a unique and very interesting story

"Wilt's Hollow "

 $12.95

Amazon or Dog Ear Publishing

or through Danny and I for $20.00

which includes the shipping

dlangone2000@yahoo.com

Katrina.ruth@hotmail.com
I will make sure it gets to you in a faster manner than
going through the publisher

 which takes awhile sometimes

Happy PPF  my friends

Pumpkin Time

found this great autumn tablecloth
at the vintage shop in town
for 1.00 !

I have been noticing all the fall decorations
 Loveland is all dressed up
in tall corn stalks and mums and sunflowers
... pumpkins and gourds.
The leaves are changing to yellows and reds
on all the trees and bushes.
I think it is going to be a spectacular Autumn for natures color !
 I'm so excited.
Time to take loads of colorful nature pictures
to inspire us all.

I have a plan to try using the Water Soluble Oil paint
(yes,.. I said that right )
no more harsh chemicals...It is worth trying them, in my mind.
My poor fingers and fingernails are so dried out and abused
from turpentine, linseed oils, and paint thinners.
They are about four dollars more a tube at the local
Micheal's and Hobby Lobby here.
but I figure I'll be saving dollars on the other chemicals,
and helping the earth a bit maybe.

I've been working on pumpkins lately
I found three pumpkin shaped wood pieces at the Goodwill store.
Friday is 50 percent off everything for me  !
( I'm over 50 years old and us old ladies need
something to look forward to on Fridays! )
Thank you Goodwill

I covered the wood shapes in thick modeling paste
and made a pattern in them with a palette knife.

...the leaf is made from heavy paper and painted
and the curly cues are made of copper wire.

the stems are cut from actual pumpkin stems

Think I may add a flower with the stem dangling
from my crow's beak
He wanted to decorate his place too !

check out how to preserve the fall leaves at :

I found the tutorials on leaf preserving

Peace and joy and Happy Pumpkin Time !!!

Art Show 2011 ...Loveland Ohio

This Sunday was the annual Loveland Art Show Event in Nesbit Park
right along the Little Miami River and the bike trail.

this is the Loveland Artist Studios on Main Booth (LASOM)
artist doing wood, fine art, abstract, mixed media, stain glass, and jewelry
we even have a personal trainer in our building and for 25 dollars a month you can let him turn your body into a work of art.
I'm really thinking about doing that next !

It was an overcast day but the rain held off
so there was a huge crowd.
music and food and kids crafts and
ART, ART, ART !

I brought out my easel and an oil painting for my sister I'm working on

It was fun !
... I'm glad I didn't let myself get down.

I saw lots going on and many talented artists
 of all kinds
and many friends

There was an abundance of paintings
... from watercolor
to pastels to oil and acrylics
...some artists working away right there painting.

yes ,..that is my freckle-y arm
working on my tree and cardinal oil painting
just as a demo kind of thing.
That was fun to do.

This is my friends Jamie Morath's Booth
I have worked with Jamie on some artistic ideas
this past year ... she is a wonderful person and artist.

I think this guys dog is so beautiful
lots of people brought their dogs along with them and it was no problem at all !

Wood worker, Dave Kratzer from our Studios
had his wood lathe going and lots of people watching him work
Dave does some beautiful artistic wooden items.
Some artists did not want photos taken so I did not
do much picture clicking to keep them all happy.

The Art Show in the Park is over for another year.
I had  fun talking to people ,
... demonstrating some oil painting for awhile,
... helping out in the LASOM Booth,
spreading the word about our Studios on Main Street.

I wish you all A Joyful Autumn on Thursday this week

yes...the leaves are  changing colors now  and it is a little cooler.
Wonderful time of the year I think.
